Noise control was a major concern during the development of Amtrak’s high-speed, Acela, trainsets, serving the Northeast Corridor. Acela trainsets can reach speeds of up to 150 mph between Boston and Washington, D.C. Noise concerns were based on experience from high- speed trains in Japan, France, and Germany.
HMMH served as noise and vibration consultant during the specification, bid review, design, build, and testing of the Acela trainsets. Our tests at the Transportation Technology Center in Colorado and on the Northeast Corridor in New Jersey confirmed the satisfactory noise performance of the new trains.
