Project Experience: Boston-Logan International Airport, Massachusetts

The Challenge

Improving air quality at Massachusetts' largest airport.

The Strategy

HMMH:

  • Prepared an EA for the rerouting of certain jet and turboprop aircraft arriving at Logan Airport
  • Conducted all technical analyses
  • Coordinated public outreach efforts
  • Prepared all documentation for the EA, including developing the air quality analysis
  •  Reviewed previous air quality studies prepared for Logan, including the 2002 Environmental Data Report and the 2001 Logan Airside Improvement Project EIS

Results of these studies were combined with the operational levels projected under the various route changes to determine if the proposed actions of the EA would conform to the Massachusetts State Implementation Plan (SIP).

The Solution

Each of the proposed actions on air quality was evaluated for its impact on the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). NOx emissions levels were also compared to the NAAQS standards.

quote In less than one year they delivered a high quality draft and final EA that was on schedule, legally sound and within FAA budget constraints. I would highly recommend HMMH, Inc. for future FAA environmental work related to aircraft noise. quote —Terry English, Environmental Specialist, FAA
