Because noise and vibration are among the key environmental issues associated with high-speed trains, expert services were needed for the California High-Speed Train Program EIR/EIS. This Tier 1 Program-level environmental assessment covered a 700-mile-long system on dedicated fully grade-separated track. The system connected major metropolitan areas of California from Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area, through the Central Valley to Los Angeles and San Diego. High-speed trains with speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour would serve the corridor by carrying over 42 million passengers annually by the year 2020.
HMMH served as the noise and vibration specialist on the Program Management Team. Our services included applying the Federal Railroad Administration guidelines and methodology for assessment of noise and vibration from high-speed ground transportation.
