Project Experience: John F. Kennedy Airport, New York

The Challenge

Assessing the potential environmental impacts associated with the introduction of new operations at JFK.

The Strategy

HMMH prepared the Draft EA to determine if the project would conform to the State Implementation Plan and not add significant emissions to the New York City region.
In addition, we:

  • Used the Emissions Dispersion Modeling System to analyze and calculate how new operations would impact emissions of vehicles traveling to and from the airport
  • Calculated future impact for the initial year of operations, interim years and final build year

The Solution

The studies showed that even in the final build year with full operations, there would be no significant air quality impact on the region from the flights, the ground support equipment, or the vehicles.
