The Challenge
Monitoring noise levels and evaluating compliance with local noise limits for a 14-unit wind farm operated by Wisconsin Public Service.
The Strategy
In conjunction with Sanchez Industrial Design, HMMH monitored levels at the farm for week-long periods during each season over the course of a year.
- The measured noise levels from the wind turbines were evaluated with respect to limits for audible noise, low frequency noise, and for the presence of pure tones
- During the noise measurement program, wind speeds and directions were continuously monitored
- Based on the results of the measurement program, it was shown that the wind farm was operating in compliance with the local noise limits
