The Challenge
Evaluating a planned mixed-use development along the shores of the Potomac River.
The development will include retail shops, offices, restaurants, a hotel and convention center, condominiums and time-share residential units. It will also feature entertainment attractions such as a family amusement park.
The Strategy
HMMH assessed the compatibility of the planned uses with the noise of aircraft using Reagan National Airport and with Capital Beltway (I-495) traffic. The study also addressed potential effects of the project's built-in soundscape. This would include sounds from on-site traffic, parking facilities, HVAC equipment and on-site entertainment venues.
