San Diego County Regional Airport Authority is conducting a program to sound insulate homes in the vicinity of San Diego International Airport. Home owners will want to know how sound insulation changes the aircraft noise they hear inside their houses. HMMH made neighborhood binaural recordings of general background sounds as well as of specific aircraft operations and processed these sounds to demonstrate the effects of being outdoors, indoors, closing windows and adding sound insulation. The user chooses a neighborhood, an aircraft type, then, using headphones, hears not only how the aircraft sounds outside, but inside with windows open, or closed, or with sound insulation added. The presentation is provided using Soundscape Builder™ on a touch screen kiosk.
