Urban Transit

Noise and vibration are key issues facing urban rail transit systems, which serve densely populated areas. HMMH assists transit authorities in the design of new systems to assess and mitigate the impact of noise and vibration from train operations. We work closely with engineers to design and specify noise and abatement measures on vehicles, track support systems, structures, and at the wayside.

Our services include:

  • Identifying noise- and vibration-sensitive sites
  • Measuring and predicting noise and vibration levels
  • Assessing annoyance and other impacts
  • Developing noise specifications
  • Defining compliance tests to control noise from equipment
  • Recommending techniques for vibration control
  • Designing wayside noise barriers
  • Specifying sound insulation treatments for residential buildings
  • Prescribing mitigation measures
